Manual: Alerts and Notifications

You can find out how to deal with alerts and notifications in this chapter.

What types of alerts are there?

  • Functional alerts:
    • If the function of the website is affected
    • In the event of an error 404 - Page not found
    • In the event of an error 503 - Server error
    • If the website cannot be reached, e.g. in the event of a timeout
    • In the event of redirection to another URL
  • Security alerts:
    • If there are security gaps in the website
    • In the event of security gaps in the content management system
    • In the event of security gaps in a plugin
    • In the event of security vulnerabilities in the PHP version used or if this is End Of Life and no longer receives support
    • In the event of security vulnerabilities in the MySQL version or if this is End Of Life and no longer receives support
    • In the event of a non-existent or expired SSL certificate
  • SEO alerts:
    • If the robots meta tag is set to "noindex" and the website cannot be indexed because of this.
  • GDPR alerts:
    • If the integration is recognized by a frequently used service such as Google Analytics
    • If SYSSY recognizes the loading of external scripts, these are usually not blocked by cookie banners. There are exceptions and configurations of cookie banners that load all scripts for bots such as SYSSY.
  • Warnings:
    • Warnings are generated if SYSSY cannot communicate with the website via the API connection.

Alert status

Alerts have different statuses:

  • Unread: A new alert that has not yet been seen or whose detailed view has not yet been viewed. Clicking on the alert marks it as "read". Viewing the alert via the app also marks it as read.
  • Read: An alert that has already been viewed, either on the website or in the app
  • Resolved: An alert that has already been resolved, either automatically because the problem has been resolved or because it has been manually set to "resolved".
  • Ignored: An alert that has been ignored. Alerts can either be set to "ignore" manually or automatically via the "Alerts settings" => https://app.syssy.net/settings/alerts. Alerts that occur can always be ignored in the alert settings. These are immediately marked as "ignored" from the first occurrence.

Dealing with alerts

Alerts are always marked as resolved automatically as soon as the problem on the website has been resolved.  For example, if there is an alert because a website is unavailable, the alert will be marked as resolved as soon as your website is working again.

Ignore alerts

Alerts that you cannot resolve or that do not resolve themselves can be set to "Ignore". These alerts are no longer displayed in the project dashboard and are collected in the alert list under a separate "Ignored" item. This way, you will no longer be irritated by alerts that you cannot do anything about.

An example of alerts that you can set to ignore is an insecure PHP version when using a web space. As a rule, you cannot influence when the hoster updates the PHP version so that it is secure again.

Mark alerts as resolved

If alerts are not resolved by themselves, you can mark them as resolved manually.

Delete alerts

When you delete alerts, they are deleted and cannot be restored.
