Connect your website with SYSSY

You can find out how to create a project and connect your website to SYSSY in this chapter.

Get started with a project

It is best to add your first project right away and add the first website to SYSSY Monitoring.

The projects (websites) are the heart of SYSSY and we can't show you much without project data.

It is best to create a project directly in the project list using the "Create project" button or click on the following link => Create project.

If there is a customer for the project, you can create them beforehand and assign them directly to the project when you create it.

If you have many projects and customers, you can add them to SYSSY via a CSV import.

Content

1. Add a project

Create your first project with the 5 steps:

1. General Information

  • Project name: Name for your project.
  • Protocol: Choose whether http:// or https://
  • Domain: Enter the domain under which your project is accessible. If you are using a subdomain such as www, please enter the domain with www
  • Description: You can add any description to the project
  • Type: Is it a website, an online store or a blog? Select the correct type
  • XML Sitemap: If there is an XML sitemap for your site, insert the entire path here

2. System Information

  • Select the content management system used
  • Select the version of the CMS used - this point is optional if you connect the project to the SYSSY plugin later. The version will then be picked up automatically.

3. Monitoring

  • Add the project to monitoring?
Select whether your website should be checked for availability, i.e. pure HTTP monitoring
  • Activate system monitoring?
Select whether the CMS version should be monitored. If you connect your website to SYSSY via the plugin, the current version in your CMS is checked here.
  • Notification by email in case of error messages?
Select if you want to be notified by email in the event of problems.
  • Email for monitoring notification
Enter your e-mail address (or several, separated by commas) to which you would like to be notified in the event of problems with your website.
  • Notification via app for error messages?
Select here whether you would like to be notified of problems with your website via the SYSSY app on your smartphone or tablet.

4. Documentation

  • Activate notification for document action entries?
Select this option if you would like to be notified about documentation that is created either automatically or manually.
  • Email for documentation notification
Enter one or more e-mail addresses to which a message should be sent for documentations

5. Customer

  • Customer
Select a customer from the list - this entry must already exist.
  • Does the project have a maintenance contract?
Here you can specify whether the project has a maintenance contract. This entry can be seen later in the list and also helps with filter options.

Click on "Save" to create the project and you will be taken directly to the project dashboard.

2. Get the project checked

At the beginning, your project is only checked for availability, i.e. it is subjected to HTTP monitoring and checked to see whether it is accessible. Here you can see in the first box "General information" whether the domain is available. If you have mistyped the URL or entered the wrong start page, a red dot for "Website not available" or an orange dot for "Redirect" may appear here under "Online status". If you see a green dot and the HTTP status code 200 next to it, everything is ok. If the dot is not green, you can adjust the domain again before continuing with the next steps.

At the top right you will find 2 important buttons:

GDPR check

If you click this button, the start page of your project is checked in real time for the most common GDPR problems. It may take a few seconds for the result to load.

Remonitoring

If you click on the Remonitoring button, the page is completely monitored. In addition to the online status, a performance, SEO and GDPR check is carried out. This step can take up to 30 seconds.

3. Connect the project via API

The first step to connecting your project to the API is to make the correct settings in the project settings.
To do this, go from the project dashboard in the "System information" box to "Edit information".

There, check the box "Connect project to CMS via API". Please note that you can only create the connection if your website has SSL encryption and the website is accessible via https://.

It is also important that you have selected a CMS, otherwise SYSSY will not know which API endpoint it should address later.

You only need the API URL if you have set up a redirect to a subpage on the start page of your website. This can interfere with the API call.

Next, the WordPress plugin or the TYPO3 extension must be installed on the website.

WordPress

To connect your WordPress website to SYSSY, you need the WordPress plugin. You can find the plugin in the official WordPress repository at this link.

  1. Download the plugin and install it in the WordPress backend
  2. Enter the API key under "SYSSY" in the settings
  3. You can find the API key at the bottom of your project dashboard under "Project API Key". Click on "Generate key" to create a new key. If a key already exists, you can display it by clicking on "Display API key".

TYPO3

To connect your TYPO3 website with SYSSY, you need the TYPO3 extension. You can find the extension in the official TYPO3 TER under this link.

  1. Download the extension, install it in the TYPO3 backend or install it via Composer
  2. Enter the API key in TypoScript under the constants - follow the instructions in the manual, which you can find on the TYPO3 extension page.
  3. You can find the API key at the bottom of your project dashboard under "Project API Key". Click on "Generate key" to create a new key. If a key already exists, you can display it by clicking on "Display API key".

Testing the API connection

Once the API key has been successfully entered in WordPress or TYPO3, you can click on the "Test API" link in the "System Information" box in the project dashboard.

If everything went well, you will see a preview of the JSON that is retrieved by the CMS.

Identify and solve connection problems

4. Analyze your project

Once you have successfully connected your project, you will have all available information for your project in SYSSY after manual remonitoring.

You will see the following data:

  • CMS version with status (secure, insecure, update possible)
  • All plugins/extensions with information on whether they contain security vulnerabilities
  • Server information indicating whether there are security vulnerabilities
  • SEO data of the start page
  • Performance data of the start page
  • Alerts, if there are already any
